Hi all! I'm John Ratzlaff, at Mount Pisgah Academy in Candler, NC. I've been
teaching here for 18 years or so, mostly math but nowadays more and more of my
time is being filled with computer-related matters (I do teach Computer
Literacy, too). I'm the Network Administrator for MPA.

Our big project is slowly getting underway. We just signed a contract (around
$100,000) for a new campus-wide Ethernet network along with a new (NEC) phone
system. Once it is installed and settled down, we will then get a T1 Internet
connection. (Until then, my Internet account is courtesy of UNCA.)

I think I have a handle on most of the above, but you probably know as well as
I do that I will encounter many surprises and difficulties before it's all
operating smoothly. Accordingly, I would welcome advice from anyone who wishes
to share it. Specifically, I would like to hear your thoughts on controlling
student access to the Web. I'm considering using SurfWatch--do any of you have
any experience with it? The Internet is going to be available from any campus
workstation, including possibly 2 in each dorm. I'm concerned that it could be
a problem. What ideas do you have? Thanks for sharing! - John
