Curfew Notes

Here are the notes from Tuesdays class period. For those of you who may decide to write your argument essay on curfew, these notes may be valuable.

 

	Support for dropping curfews	Opposition to dropping curfews
Students	Late night snack attack Frustration about lack of leniency (2 seconds late) Probation or punishment for being late too many times. Time conflicts with late labs Just annoying. Encourages conformity to a rule, rather than developing good judgment. Students will rebel anyway Feels more like boarding school rather than college. Saves university and students money Curfews allow little time for out of class activities.	Helps develop good time management Helps build responsibility Keeps everyone to the same standard Promotes better sleeping and study habits Keeps noise level down Helps keep the campus and students safe
Administrators	Complicated to keep track of all students Hinders teacher to student tutoring time Dont have to evaluate excuses Homework outside of their rooms No hurry, avoid accidents or tickets. Bad performance. Gives the student better preparation for the real world.	Academic performance is better with sufficient rest. Health concerns as a result of lack of sleep Keeps students out of trouble Makes admin. job easier. Reduces traffic flow into campus at night, therefore restricting nefarious characters. Safeguard against potentially dangerous situations. (getting stranded b/c of car breaking down) Responding to parents expectations
Parents	The children can learn responsibility through previous failures. The students in college are adults and should be seen that way Curfews can restrict learning (out of dorm study groups) Stressful to students Less time to visit family The amount of money paid for the dorm can be more expensive than an apartment. Could attract more students and thus lower tuition. Too sheltering, doesnt allow for growth Fines for coming in late	Safety No worries Gender issues (being out late with significant other) Guaranteed sleep Reduces the worry about what your kids are doing late at night Helps keep them out of trouble Maturity level needs help Judgment may be impaired by not having curfew
