Family : Interests : Goals

The four of us:

Here we are with our two children, Shauna and Chip. We took this picture a few years back when I had a “Cookie duster” (moustache).

The two of us:

This is a more recent photo of Jerri, my wife, and me. The “Cookie duster” is gone. Evidently it migrated more toward the top of my head where it seems to be growing out with more of a gray tone than it had before. I guess they call it maturity!

My first wife:

Jerri, always a teacher at heart, currently serving as director of Student Financial Services at Andrews University, was M.C. at a Faculty/Board Banquet for one of our sister institutions of higher learning. She was dressed as a teacher from a few decades back in history. The event was most enjoyable. A constant source of joy, inspiration and insight, she is the grade school sweetheart I married.
By the way she is my first and only wife.

Our daughter:

Shauna, our eldest, is the administrative assistant to the president of Walla Walla College in Walla Walla, Washington. She is not only capable and talented in that role, but has a wit and sense of humor that provides release, relaxation, and a climate of vulnerability that seems to be the atmosphere in which good relationships can flourish.

Our son:

Chip is a Bible teacher/coach at San Diego Academy who enjoys the companionship of his wife, Trina. She is the administrative associate for their local church pastor. You should hear her preach! The congregation loves her. Chip has fun teaching during the week. Then together, they create lasting fun relationships with students outside the classroom on week-ends.

Some of the “Out of class relationships” are fostered as Chip takes his students out to the desert for rides and opportunities to drive his “Dune Truck.” Like Sara Lee, nobody doesn’t like the dune truck rides. They help build friendship and trust relationships from which God talk can and does emerge. They have only rolled the truck once, and no one was injured. Chip is currently finishing his Masters in Religious Education here at Andrews University.

My parents:

Don and Norma Gifford live in Northern California, just a few miles south of Sacramento, the state capitol. While in their mid-eighties, they are still totally independent and capable of doing about anything they want to do.

Mom is a great cook and enjoys home making, tutoring elementary school students, helping the young “Adventurers” at church, and keeping a flower and vegetable garden in great shape.

Dad is a retired commercial pilot and aircraft mechanic who can, and does, fix about anything mechanical that needs fixing.

Our family is a long way away. We miss seeing them as often as we’d like.
