Online Course Design

This section is intended to provide an overview of online course design and development. For some, when they think about taking their course, or part of their course online, they may think that they are simply converting their existing course to a new delivery method. It is true that course content, goals, and objectives of the course should be very similar. However, it may not be that simple.

There seem to be two primary questions that need to be addresssed as one consider online learning:

  • How will the content be delivered so that it contains effective learning expereinces for the student? and
  • How will interactions be managed between the student and the subject matter, the student and the instructor, and between students? The area of course management is a key difference between the online course and a classroom-based course.
This tutorial will address those questions.
