The ancient city of Thebes and the modern city of Luxor lie on the east bank of the Nile River.  Thebes was the "city of the living."  The West Bank of the Nile was the location of the tombs of the Pharaohs and their families, the "city of the dead."  The major sites on the West Bank that we were able to visit included the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Tombs of the Artisans, the Temple of Rameses, and the Temple of Medinet Habu.
