Paulien Family Trip to New York City
July 9-20, 1999

Tammy (17), Kimberly (11), and Joel (13)

In early 1998, Dad was invited to spend a couple of weekends speaking to the Advent Hope Congregation on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Since he was born in this neighborhood and grew up in that congregation, he thought this would provide a great opportunity for the children to get to know the city and what their father's childhood was like. The speaking appointments were set for July 10 and 17, leaving room for quite a bit of sightseeing. For photo highlights of the trip, visit the gallery pages listed below!

Home, Sweet Home
A look at the home, street, and some of the neighbors in Little Ferry, NJ where Jon grew up
The Church
Jon was baptized in the German NY Church on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in 1961.  The Advent Hope Church, as it is called today, still remains and was the venue for the meetings Jon held.
The Statue of Liberty
One of the highlights of the trip for all concerned was a visit to the world-famous Statue of Liberty off the southern tip of Manhattan Island.
Downtown
A look at the famous New York City Downtown, including Wall Street and a great view from the water and from the top of the World Trade Center.
The New York
Botanical Garden
An island of natural beauty in the midst of the Bronx.  We visited the lovely Enid Haupt Conservatory.
A Stroll Through Midtown
While Downtown is the home of the Financial District, the throbbing heart of the city is Midtown, full of shopping, restaurants, shows and unbounded energy!
A Visit with Mrs. Wolter
One of the last, remaining representatives of the German Church in which Jon grew up, Mrs. Wolter is a sweet saint, who is loved by all, including the kids! (see all the kids on this page)
Central Park
The favorite hideaway for harried city dwellers.
The Metropolitan
Museum of Art
Kimberly (the family Egyptologist) and Dad sneak away for a private adventure in the fabulous Metropolitan Museum of Art!

Spectacular shots of Times Square in all of its glitz and glory.
Family and
Miscellaneous Photos
Lots of family shots in a variety of settings, and a few others that didn't seem to fit into the above themes, but were too good to leave out of the collection.
