Pre-Conferece of the School Library Section - June 15, 2003 at Atlantic Union College

INTRODUCTION

  There were more ideas, but we tried to limit our time and energy
        to those that are doable!

IDEAS PRESENTED:

  1. Place electronic resources into every library
  2. Provide bibliographic instruction ( Information Literacy ) to
            teachers and students
  3. Foster collaboration with teachers and become partners in
            curriculum planning at the Unions and the NAD
  4. Provide professional development for "library personnel"
  5. Assist in collection development
  6. Offer Basics in Facility Planning & Maintenance
  7. Come up with ideas in financing a library
  8. Offer basics in public relations / marketing SLS products and
            services
  9. Suggest to our colleges / universities to offer a course in
            Information literacy to future elementary / secondary teachers
  10. Conduct an agressive membership drive
  11. Coordinate school library initiatives to avoid reenventing the
            Wheel

WE PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH THIS YEAR:

  Wolfhard will work on a proposal for ASDAL granting CEUs at
        our pre-conferences and workshops
  Paulette started a list of librarians in North America
  Annette will negotiate for a column in The Journal of Adventist
        Education
  Anne will look into "Evaluating Bibliographic Instruction"
  Annette will look into the feasibility of offering an online course in
        Basic Library Skills
