Certification / Licensing for School Librarians: Definition: Recognition that one has met the competency requirements (coursework, tests, etc.) needed to work in a particular field. Requirements vary from state to state: Library Media Specialist / Teacher-Librarian Certification (not necessarily a master's degree). Check Board of Education for specific requirements. Master's degree from an ALA-accredited institution. Master's degree with a specialty in school library media from an institution accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
