Position summary
Assists prospective honors students, current honors students, honors faculty, and Andrews University employees with information regarding the J.N. Andrews Honors Program; assists the program director in managing day-to-day and long-term activities and planning.
Qualifications summary
Baccalaureate degree preferred. In the absence of a four-year degree, a person who has management experience and an exemplary work history may be considered. Second-language facility preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Serves as program receptionist, welcomes and assists visitors, answers telephones, distributes mail, manages email queries
- Assists program website manager in keeping website information current
- Assists with J. N. Andrews Honors Program Facebook page
- Maintains files on prospective students, current students, and alumni
- Assists with recruitment activities on a weekly basis and at weekend University Preview events
- Manages program applications and prospective student communications
- Works with Registrar in updating and maintaining accurate honors program student records
- Keeps files of honors course syllabi
- Compiles honors course teacher evaluations
- Processes and tracks monthly income and expense
- Handles student lab fees and activities charges
- Oversees student workers
- Processes student worker materials (e.g. time records, pay rates, etc.)
- Coordinates Honors Council meeting schedules, communicates with Honors Council members, and prepares and maintains Honors Council minutes
- Assists honors faculty with copying needs
- Monitors and maintains program supplies, printers, etc.
- Maintains an attractive, clean, and well-ordered work space
- Replenishes and maintains hospitality services in the office lobby (hot beverages, snacks, etc.)
- Assists with the set-up of program academic and social functions (including occasional events on weekends)
- Coordinates Honors Forsyth House rental arrangements
- Warehouses all university information regarding disciplinary honors society memberships and communicates this information to the President’s Office before each graduation
- Other duties may be assigned
Supervisory responsibilities
- Oversees student workers by assigning tasks, evaluating work, completing all necessary paperwork associated with student worker employment
- Processes student worker materials (e.g. time records, pay rates, etc.)
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree preferred. In the absence of a four-year degree, a person who has management experience and an exemplary work history may be considered.

Physical demands
Assistant must be able comfortably to walk the campus when posting Honors events signs or connecting with colleagues in other departments.
Work environment
Administrative Assistant's desk is in a busy lobby area where students and faculty come and go. It is imperative that the Assistant maintain a welcoming attitude even when students disrupt the tasks at hand. Assistant should have the ability to complete work assignments in an environment where students will be studying, visiting, and chatting.
