Position summary

Responsible for all aspects of the Adventist Digital Library with guidance from the Adventist Digital Library Board and the Director, Center for Adventist Research.

Qualifications summary


  1. A basic working knowledge and appreciation of Seventh-day Adventist history is required.

  2. At least two years of relevant experience showing an ability to think strategically.

  3. Success as an administrator.

  4. Experience in multi-institutional coordination. 

  5. Experience in product management is desired. 

  6. Familiarity with databases, web design, servers, and storage systems is necessary. 

  7. Additional training in digitization, library, and archival related topics is helpful. 

  8. Demonstrable attention to detail and quality assurance of data and of related metadata.

  9. Must be a capable personnel manager.




Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Responsible for the implementation of directives from the Adventist Digital Library (The Library) Board.

  2. Daily communication with the Systems Manager to ensure the Library’s platform is performing as expected.

  3. Develop, review, and improve processes and procedures to ensure the best efficiency possible, and that the work conforms to the latest trends in technology, and adheres to established Library standards.

  4. Coordinate the ongoing development of the Library website in its look and feel as well as its functionality.  This includes keeping it current with developing trends in website development.

  5. Coordinate with the Systems Manager to ensure all data is adequately backed up and protected against loss.

  6. Plan and implement, with t-e help of the Systems Manager, an Adventist archival system.

  7. Coordinate, in cooperation with the SDAPI Advisory Committee and Center for Adventist Research administration, the integration of the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index.

  8. Serve as chair of the ADL Content Committee and coordinate the efforts to fulfill the content directives of this committee and the Board.

  9. Responsible for conceptualization and implementation of marketing and promotion strategies to increase awareness and understanding of ADL, and for the broadening of the Library’s user and donor base.  This includes wide use of various social media.

  10. Develops relationships with other digital data contributors to the Library from around the world.  This involves:

    1. Sharing of news and developments in the Library and solicitation of feedback.

    2. Development and promulgation of standards for data and metadata submitted for inclusion in the Library.

    3. Coordinate approved projects with donors to reduce duplication of effort on contribution or digitization initiatives.

    4. Work with the leadership of the Center for Adventist Research on fostering new relationships for continued content enrichment.



  11. Supervises and give guidance regarding digitization, including quality control of the digitized data and metadata creation.

  12. Regularly report progress statistics and other aspects of the work to the Board, the Administrative Operating Committee, and Center for Adventist Research administration.

  13. Supervises the Library’s support staff, student workers, and any contract workers. Actively seeks staff and student employees for available positions that have a strong skill set for each position.

  14. Performs other tasks assigned by the Director, Center for Adventist Research in his/her capacity as chair, ADL Administrative Operating Committee.



Supervisory responsibilities

The ADL Lead Manager supervises regular staff and student assistants.

Qualifications

Education

  1. A bachelor’s degree is required.

  4. scheduling/tracking software

  5. library catalog systems

  6. related computer software and hardware is necessary  



Interpersonal interactions

The ADL Lead Manager has extensive written, telephone, e-mail, and in-person contact with a wide variety of on and off campus individuals.

Physical demands

Requires the following physical abilities to perform job satisfactorily:

  1. Lift 40 pounds from the floor to a seven-foot-high shelf with the aid of a step stool.

  2. Bend to reach the floor and reach up to reach seven-foot-high shelf.

  3. Able to see file folders in the top of a five drawer file cabinet and access them.

  4. Able to operate a computer for extensive amounts of time, either sitting or standing.



Work environment


  1. Environment is a sometimes busy location with several other people working in fairly close proximity.

  2. There may be collaborative conversation going on around you.

  3. The environment is in the Center for Adventist Research, James White Library, on the campus of Andrews University.

  4. Congenial team environment.

  5. Most work is in front of a computer monitor.

  6. Team meetings occur as do meetings with supervisors, though not real frequent.
