Position summary
The individual will hold a faculty appointment in the SDA Theological Seminary Church History Department. They will have teaching, advising, service, scholarship, and administrative responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Church History Department. Teaching graduate courses in the field of Church History and Adventist Studies, providing academic advisement support to students in the program, participating in committees, maintaining an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations, sitting on dissertation committees, and other duties as assigned to the position.

We seek a qualified candidate who has an earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in the area of Adventist Studies, who is committed to teamwork and collegiality, has excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with students and colleagues with a wide range of national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach a full load of courses in Church History and Adventist Studies at the masters and doctoral levels
- Advise and provide mentorship to masters and doctoral students
- Provide advocacy and leadership in the area of Church History and Adventist Studies to the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond)
- Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities
- Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration
Supervisory responsibilities
- Work with administrative assistant.
- Oversee graduate assistant.
Qualifications
- An earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in the area of Adventist Studies.
- Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level in English
- Experience in teaching or pastoral ministry in the Adventist Church
- Record of academic engagement and publications is desired along with a potential research agenda in area of expertise
- An understanding of adult learning practices and how to apply it in the context of theological education
- Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting winsomely with students and staff
- A personal history of healthy human relations, high moral integrity and Christian spiritual maturity
- A commitment to mentor students
- Solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission.

Technical competencies as needed to successfully perform teaching responsibilities, as well as historical research and writing.
