FINANCIAL RECORDS - Head Cashier Financial Records

Position summary

The head cashier position is responsible for receipting all departmental revenue not associated with student accounts.   They are also responsible for reconciling daily receipting activity as well as supervising departmental cashiers to ensure accurate and timely revenue reporting and depositing.

 

Qualifications summary

Good customer services skills.  

Detail oriented with excellent organizational and math skills.

Good computer skills.  Comfortable working in Microsoft Excel.  

Reliability. 

Cashier experience preferred.

Basic Accounting knowledge preferred.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Daily cashiering duties including receipting and disbursing.

Reconciliation of daily cashiering activity, monitoring flow of all cash drawers and maintaining sufficient cash on hand.  

Reconciliation of all deposit activity on campus, including online credit card activity, and preparing journal vouchers to record such activity.

Applies and enforces university policy and procedures related to cash management. 

Assist departmental personnel in maintaining good cash handling policy and procedures.

Supervisory responsibilities

Some supervisory skills needed. Works with other departments to coordinate cash availability. Also works with departments in maintianing good cash handling practices and procedures.

Qualifications

Excellent math skills. Must be able to accurately and consistently count cash for disbursements and receipts as well as accurately reconcile recorded activity with cash on hand daily.  

Good Customer service. This person is required to meet and serve people all day each work day. Must be professional in handling of University funds and interactions with customers.

Detail Oriented. Excellent organizaiton skills. Each penny must be accounted for each day and all documentation must be appropriately filed, mailed, or shredded.  Significant amount of money and paperwork flows through the office and must be dealt with properly.   

Good Accounting and Excel skills. This position requires the use of Banner and Excel software.

Reliability.    This position requires immediate customer service.    When the cashier is not at work,  someone else has to do the job for them.  Most of the work cannot be rescheduled.    This is very disruptive to those who must fill in for the cashier unexpectedly.   

Accounting knowledge preferred.   This job does not require an accounting degree however, it does require the employee to prepare accounting type entries.    Accounting knowledge assists employee in understanding scope and duties of job. 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

Working Knowledge of Excel. Must be able to do simple spreadsheets. 

Must be comfortable working with computers. 

Interpersonal interactions

Customer service. In addition to meeting the needs of customers coming into the cashiering office they must also be in regular contact with departmental cashiers to help with errors and encourage them to keep up to date in reporting. Intereactions should be pleasant and professional. 

This position must be team player. The duties performed affect all positions in the department; the individual must know how to get along with all members of the team.  

Physical demands

Sitting, standing, walking.  

Work environment

Must maintain pleasent and secure office. Office must be kept locked when cashier is not present. Only authorized Financial Records departmental personnel allowed behind cashier desk.  Customers service takes place at counter.
