PLANT SERVICE - Electrician

Position summary

Maintains and repairs power, lighting, and all electrical equipment and electrical services on the University campus by performing the following duties.  Maintains and tests campus fire and security equipment/systems.  Rotates weekend shifts with other electrician to take regular service calls, and on said shifts also performs emergency services beyond regularly scheduled work hours as required. Must have current USA or Canadian Drivers Licese.

Qualifications summary

Must have at least two years experience in the electrical trade.  Also should have working knowledge of the equipment and techniques used in contemporary electrical practice.  Must have knowledge of the relevant State codes, Acts, and Regulations.  Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in electricity. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and to talk or hear.  The employee frequently required to stand; walk climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  A good sense of smell is necessary.   The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, explosives, and risk of radiation.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
