Position summary
The Alumni Engagement Coordinator plays an integral role in the overall operations of alumni services. It is designed to enhance the Office of Alumni Services by serving as the homecoming project manager, volunteer coordinator, young alumni coordinator, and alumni legacy coordinator among other things. This role requires a variety of communication responsibilities and must demonstrate a high level of reasoning and decision-making skills. This person is responsible for the careful management of alumni data and also serves as the alumni campus relations point person, while always striving to facilitate alumni engagement in a variety of ways. Additionally, an engagement coordinator position serves as an on-the ground support for Alumni Director at the Office of Alumni Services.
Qualifications summary
Must have experience working with data (Banner database preferred). Requires good computer skills, as well as great communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be a graduate or attendee of Andrews University.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Alumni Engagement
- Assistant project manager for up to 50 Alumni Homecoming events annually
- Coordinates the selection of Honored Alumni by working closely by forming nominating committee, communicating with and reporting back to Alumni Board of Directors
- Serves as alumni volunteer engagement coordinator
- Serves as young alumni engagement coordinator
- Supervises, schedules and engages student employees
- Supports regional events by assisting with various aspects of the process, for example researching and securing sites, faxing contracts and/or collecting RSVP responses as needed
- Alumni legacy coordinator: Involved in Parent Weekend, work closely with Enrollment to connect with alumni of all ages to get their children/grandchildren to attend Andrews University
- Connects students with Alumni. Work closely with the Office of Counseling & Testing Center, various schools and academic departments.
- Collaborate with the Howard Performing Arts Center staff during weekend concerts, to represent the alumni office and host alumni attendees.
- Collaborate with Development to ensure friendraising and fundraising both go hand and hand.
- Responsible for planning, organizing and hosting Lake Union camp meeting events.
Campus Relations & Communication Responsibilities
- Responsible for engaging in-house alumni (students, faculty & staff)
- In-house event coordinator, including but not limited to: orientation events, graduation events and career events
- Spearheads strategic social media initiatives and website updates; including but not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
- Works to resolve various requests and questions via multiple communication channels, such as phone, email, walk-ins and electronic helpdesk.
- Writes, edits, solicits and collects content from alumni for publications including but not limited to the monthly alumni e-newsletter and quarterly FOCUS magazine.
- Serves as Executive Secretary to the Alumni Board of Directors, which requires coordination in taking and dispersing official minutes, securing venue and meals, along with other tasks.
- Communicates with alumni volunteers and community members' about various engagement opportunities, including but not limited to Reunion Leaders.
Supervisory responsibilities
Provides supervision and guidance to the student staff at the Office of Alumni Services

Technical competencies
Ability to work with mathematical concepts is necessary, to reconcile receipts and do basic calculations. Must be familiar with working in Microsoft Office Suite and be proficient in working with a computer. Performing basic tasks like printing, scanning, archiving digital assets and ability to find files and documents on the computer is a must.

Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, problem-solving, organization, teamwork and project management
Physical demands
Should be able to contribute to regular needs of the office, which include lifting boxes of up to 40 pounds, moving furniture and other basic office tasks.
