Position summary
Certified teaching position for all subjects at the middle to upper elementary grade levels (3-8). Performs all supervisory and extracurricular responsibilities expected of a full-time classroom teacher.
Qualifications summary
To perform this job successfully, candidates must have the minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, current NAD denominational and MI State certification or be eligible to obtain both. Must demonstrate professional competence, be proficient in the core subject areas and has a passion for inspiring and motivating students to high levels of academic achievement. Duties and responsibilities
- Prepares and provides appropriate learning experiences consistent with Adventist philosophy.
- Models exemplary Christ-like behavior.
- Works harmoniously with other staff members, the board, constituents, the administration and colleagues at Andrews University, and the Office of Education.
- Keeps himself/herself professionally up-to-date and maintains current denominational and state certification.
- The employee participates in:
- Student supervision during on-and off-campus school-related activities
- Professional extracurricular activities such as, but not limited to:
- Parent-teacher conferences
- Home and School meetings
- Faculty meetings
- Teacher conventions and in-services
- Expectations for classroom organization and management include ability to
- Demonstrates effective planning skills using NAD Curriculum Guides and teachers’
- Do long range yearly planning and develops weekly lesson plans
- Utilize a variety of instruction and assessment strategies and activities
- Manage classroom and its routines effectively
- Provide a safe, orderly, attractive, learning environment
- Maintain an attractive classroom that is Christ-centered and uniquely Adventist
- Maintain accurate records

Supervisory responsibilities
This position requires supervision of various in and out of classroom activities. Student health and safety is essential. Careful plans must be made and implemented for adequate supervision from the time employee receives them at school until the time they are released to parents. The basic rule is that children must be within sight of an employee or have been given permission to be out of the adult’s presence for a specific and prudent purpose.
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education, North American Division of SDA and Michigan state certification to teach elementary subjects. Proficiency in basic technology skills including, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must value a strong relationship with Jesus, be able to model SDA Christian values and standards with a passion for Adventist education.

Technical competencies
Must be able to operate at a reasonable level of competency, equipment common to the teaching profession, such as a computer, copy machine, paper cutter, VCR/DVD player, overhead projector, telephone, scanner, digital camera, digital video camera, and tools such as brooms, dust pans, mops, vacuums, snow shovels, etc.

Physical demands
The job requires a full range of body motion including sitting, standing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, walking, stooping, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, and reaching cupboards, cabinets, bulletin and chalk boards, and keyboard use/repetitive hand motion. The job also requires good hearing and vision adequate for assigned responsibilities.
Work environment
The employee is subject to working in a generally well-lighted and ventilated classroom environment approximately 85% of the time while the remainder of the time is spent teaching or supervising students outside, in the gymnasium, on field trips, etc.
