Position summary
Conducting the Wind Symphony. Coordinating the Music Education program. Teaching conducting, music education classes, and applied instrumental lessons to majors, minors, and graduate students. Position may be configured to include administrative role in the Department of Music.
Qualifications summary
DMA in Conducting or PhD in Music Education. Evidence of excellence in teaching and potential for scholarly activity are essential. Commitment to teamwork and collegiality. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from a wide range of national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Administrative experience and/or expertise in music theory preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Serve as director and conductor for the Wind Symphony.
- Coordinate the Music Education program.
- Teach conducting, music education classes, and applied instrumental lessons to majors, minors, and graduate students.
- Oversee graduate assistants and student employees.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Guide graduate conducting recitals, research projects/theses, and Honors/Senior projects.
- Serve on departmental and university committees.
- Position may be configured to include administrative role in the Department of Music.
- Position may be configured to include teaching music theory courses
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervise graduate Teaching Assistants and student workers.

Work environment
The work environment conditions for this job are similar to those found in any regular office and classroom environment. The noise level in the work environment includes music from rehearsal rooms nearby, instruments playing, and vocalization; however, the noise is usually moderate.
In addition, expect the typical noise levels associated with instrumental practice and large-ensemble rehearsal.
