Position summary
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing holds a faculty appointment and has academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Nursing Department. This individual demonstrates competence in didactic, clinical education, teaching, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Qualifications summary
- DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- At least 2 years current teaching experience as a nurse educator at the graduate level preferred.
- Current Michigan RN licensure or eligibility for licensure in Michigan State
- Online teaching experience is preferred.
- Evidence of scholarship and publications preferred.
- Certification as FNP is a plus.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Supervise graduate students’ scholarly projects.
- Teach graduate online courses assigned and abide by the online contract and requirements for teaching.
- Create/Review and update applicable syllabi for courses assigned.
- Evaluate students' course work, lab and clinical for assigned courses.
- Participate in accreditation preparation and visit when applicable.
- Maintain weekly office hours as required by policy to be available to students.
- Participate in department, school and university's committees as required by policy.
- Participate in scholarship, service and teaching activities as required by Andrews University's faculty policy.
- Participate in nursing department activities like dedication, pinning, recruitment, advising etc.
- Maintain clinical expertise
- Participate in collecting assessment data for the department.
- Other duties that may be assigned from Department of Nursing, School of Professional Health and University levels.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise relevant clinical, adjunct and supporting faculty as needed.
- Supervise assigned students, student workers and graduate assistants.
Qualifications
- DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- At least 2 years teaching experience as a nurse educator at the graduate level preferred.
- Online teaching experience is preferred.
- Ability to work as a team member
- Dynamic presenter/speaker
- Ability to form good student and peer relationships
- Ability to establish relationships with clinical sites in various communities
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Ability to navigate the online environment and work with Learning Mnagement System (LMS) - Moodle prefered but training will be given.
Interpersonal interactions
- Must be comfortable interacting with students in an advisory role.
- Must be comfortable interacting with multiethnic and multinational faculty and student population
Physical demands
- Must be able to keep up with the physical demand required for students’ clinical rotation within the healthcare settings.
Work environment
- Classes will be taught mostly in Marsh Hall, Andrews University.
- Clinical at hospitals and clinics in the community.
- Online courses will be taught through the Learning Management System (Moodle/LearningHub).
