Position summary
The Assistant Director supports the mission and strategic plan of Andrews University by assisting the Director, Provost, L.I.F.E. Center and other campus partners in creating an optimum environment to foster a culture of leadership development.
Qualifications summary
To perform this job successfully, the employee must have both academic and professional qualifications suitable for the job. A masters degree the capacity and experience working with young adults are required.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILLITES
- Delivery of 12 academic-equivalent credits each school year (half-time faculty load)
- Development, implementation, and revision of program assessment protocols
- Supervises overall LEAD200 practicum process of non-senior students in the program
- Plans, supervises, and implements various co-curricular leadership opportunities for general student body
- Provides, in collaboration with the director, student organizations leadership development training
- Serves as program representative on various councils and committees around campus, in addition to or in absence of director
- Serves as co-advisor to the Undergraduate Leadership society
- Provides expertise in motivating and channeling student engagement and establishes a culture of innovation, openness, and accountability for student-led ideas
- Mentors student leaders, both those in formal and informal leadership roles
- Creates assessment measures for student engagement and satisfaction and implementing appropriate changes to co-curricular programming to serve student body needs
- Oversees the Summer Leadership Lab summer intensive program including selection (in collaboration with director), onboarding, evaluation, and curriculum development.
General Responsibilities
- Planning a comprehensive program of leadership development opportunities which recognizes and responds to the needs and interests of a diverse student population.
- Assisting with strategic plans for assessing needs, program participation, assessment and satisfaction, to insure continuous quality improvement.
- Directing communication and marketing efforts to promote well-defined and informed Undergraduate Leadership programming which encourages maximum participation among the undergraduate population.
- Working collaboratively with students, administrators, and university entities.
- Serving on Student Life and campus committees, such as the Undergraduate Leadership Council.
- Meeting a flexible work schedule that occasionally includes evenings and weekends.
- Maintaining professional growth through involvement in professional organizations, attending an annual conference etc.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervise graduate assistants and students.

- A Master’s degree (completed or in process) in a relevant discipline, and 2+ years of relevant experience with collegiate-age adults
