Position summary
Performs custodial and maintenace as well as supervises and coordinates activites of workers engaged in cleaning and maintaining Andrews Academy
Qualifications summary
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university OR one to two years related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience; physically able to meet requirements of the job; ability to read and interpret documents such a safety rules, operating and maintenace instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Maintains and keeps MSDA (Material Safety Data Sheets) current and readily available.
- Performs periodic surveillance of asbestos.
- Assigns tasks to workers, and inspects completed work for conformance to standards.
- Resolves workers' problems or refer matters to principal
- Cleans, vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors in hallways, gym, chapel, library, and rest rooms with assistance from student workers.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies.
- Empties trash and garbage containers.
- Sets up tables and chairs in building as needed.
- Purchases cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Peforms and coordinates major cleaning of building during vacation periods and summers.
- Supervises lunch time setup and cleaning.
- Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk
- Maintains building performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical, furniture, and other related maintenace activities.
- Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
- Replace light bulbs and ballasts.
- Maintains locks, except pinning.
- Maintains custodial equipment.
- Coordinates building closing and lock up
- Coordinates opening of school for events due to rental of facility.
Supervisory responsibilities
Directly supervises up to 10 part-time student workers in the Custodial Dept. Carries out supervisory responsibilites in accordance with teh organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilites include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Reasoning ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations wehre only limited standardiazation exists. Abiltiy to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
