Position summary

Assist the shop manager with various tasks in the Physics Enterprises shop including cutting, drilling and welding metal and plastic parts for use in our products.  

Qualifications summary

Candidate will be trained to use heavy machine equipment.  Most importantly they will be able to pay good attention to detail, be willing to ask questions, will be timely and a good communicator.  It will be helpful to have experience in a shop, using drill presses and saws such as band saws, table saws and miter saws.

Duties and responsibilities

Assist shop manager.  Tasks are frequently repetative cutting or drilling of matierials to prepare parts for final product assembly.  Shop cleanup will be a regular part of each shift.

Qualifications

Candidate should be able to commit at least 10 hours per week and communicate well with the shop manager.  Very basic math and measurement skills are necessary. It would be helpful to be able to read engineering drawings and to have experience with drill presses and saws such as band saws, table saws and miter saws.

MUST be able to ask questions and communicate effectively with the shop manager regarding procedures and schedules.

Physical demands

Must be able to lift 50lbs, must wear both eye and ear protection when running equipment.  

Work environment

The shop is loud and can be very dangerous if percautions are not properly followed.  Candidate will need to bring their own footwear.  Earplugs and goggles will be provided.  Grease and dust will likely stick.
