Position summary
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Architecture holds a faculty appointment and has academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the School of Architecture & Interior Design. This individual demonstrates competence in design studio education, teaching, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Qualifications summary
- Master of Architecture from an accredited institution.
- Current Michigan or other state licensure.
- Construction supervision experience preferred.
- Evidence of scholarship and publications preferred.
- LEED certification is a plus.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Create/Review and update applicable syllabi for courses assigned.
- Evaluate students' course work and design studio work for assigned courses.
- Participate in accreditation preparation and visit when applicable.
- Maintain weekly office hours as required by policy to be available to students.
- Participate in department, school and university's committees as required by policy.
- Participate in scholarship, service and teaching activities as required by Andrews University's faculty policy.
- Maintain professional expertise.
- Participate in collecting assessment data for the department.
- Other duties that may be assigned from School of Architecture & Interior Design and University levels.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise assigned students, student workers and graduate assistants.
Qualifications
- Master of Architecture from an accredited institution.
- Architecture Registration preferred.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Dynamic presenter/speaker.
- Ability to form good student and peer relationships.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. AutoCad, Revit, and SketchUp) or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Ability to navigate the online environment and work with Learning Mnagement System (LMS) - Moodle prefered but training will be given.
Interpersonal interactions
- Must be comfortable interacting with students in an advisory role.
- Must be comfortable interacting with multiethnic and multinational faculty and student population.
Physical demands
Must be able to perform normal classroom and design studio instruction.
Work environment
- Classes will be taught mostly in the Architecture building, Andrews University.
- Hands-on courses will be taught in the School workshop, where noise may exceed 80 db at times.
