Position summary

The individual holds a faculty appointment in the PT department and has teaching, advising, service, scholarship and administrative responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Physical Therapy Department. The course load will be determined based on the individuals area expertise.

Qualifications summary

• Earned entry-level physical therapist degree from a CAPTE accredited program.


• Earned advanced doctorate preferred (academic or professional). Candidates nearing completion of academic doctorate degree may be considered.


• At least two years of teaching and research experience preferred.


• Licensed or eligible for Physical Therapist licensure in the state of Michigan.


• Exhibits a willingness to adhere to Christian principles, specifically SDA principles.


• A member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good and regular standing.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

• Promote the mission and vision of the University, School of Health Professions, and the Physical Therapy department.


• Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and administration


• Coordinate work with colleagues and peers as well as work independently.


• Teach courses as assigned by the department chair to equal a full-time teaching load.


• Develop quality learning experiences that promote critical thinking in students


• Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, conduct labs, administer and grade student assignments/examinations

• Evaluate students' performance to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning.

• Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.


• Coordinate the participation of associated faculty as appropriate for assigned courses.


• Arrange accommodations for students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).


• Direct, advise and provide mentorship to doctoral students in research.


• Design and conduct independent and/or collaborative research in particular field of knowledge.


• Present and publish research findings in peer-reviewed forums.


• Perform related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula, and act as adviser to student organizations.


• Serve on department and university committees as assigned.


• Participate in curriculum development, assessment and admissions.


• Attend department, School, and University faculty meetings and committees as scheduled.


• Evening hours may be required.

Supervisory responsibilities

• Supervise students, student workers and graduate assistants in their assigned tasks.

Qualifications

• Track record of ongoing research with publications in peer reviewed journals and/or professional presentations preferred.


• Ability to utilize different methods and media in delivering course materials.


• Ability to effectively communicate expressively and receptively in English with all persons via written, electronic, and verbal methods.


• Qualified for American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) membership.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

• Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer technology (eg, word processing, e-mail, database, digital media for classroom application, online learning platforms) and the internet or proven ability to learn these skills.


• Knowledge of common research statistical analysis.

• Superior communication, organization, presentation, interpersonal, advising and customer service skills.


• Creative and innovative problem-solving skills.


• Experience in interaction with multiethnic and multinational groups.


• Possess critical inquiry skills and judgment necessary to guide faculty and students and to interact with other faculty and staff.

Physical demands

• Stand, talk and demonstrate at a level to be understood for two or more hours at a time as required for lecture and laboratory sessions.


• Ambulate approximately 500 yards and negotiate 2 flights of stairs to get around campus as needed.


• Be able to perform physical tasks relevant to the teaching load.


• Be able and available to travel by personal vehicle or commercial transportation for distant assignments related to professional development and dissemination of research.


• Be able to travel for two or more days at one time related to professional development and dissemination of research.
