PLANT SERVICE - Asst Mgr-Plant Services

Position summary

Working supervisor who supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing physical structures of buildings such as painting, plumbing and welding. Install, and perform repairs, rebuilds, and services mechanical or electrical locking devices (card access) and assists with all door repairs and door installs by performing the following duties: handles emergency repairs beyond normal work hours as required, assit with daily operation of  performing the following duties. Must be within fifteen minutes of the University for quick response when on call.

Duties and responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as needed. May direct workers engaged in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, carpentry, and in other mechanical services, and may also if trained, perform the duties of these mechanical services.  Evaluates mechanical problems and assists with resolution.  Coordinates work between Plant Service departments.  Assists with trouble-shooting of all areas.  Assists and coordinates flushing and maintaining of water system, including inspection and repair of wells.  Acts as an on-call supervisor which includes but is not limited to the following:



Supervisory responsibilities

Directly supervises Plant Service staff as requested and outlined by Manager.  The assistant manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these staff members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The Assistant Manager may be required to work up to 50 hours per week if  and never less than 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

Associate degree or one to two years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of manager, clients, customers, and the general public  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form. Must have a current driver’s license.
