CHURCH HISTORY - Faculty-Church History

Position summary

The individual will hold a faculty appointment in the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary Church History Department.  They will have teaching, advising, service, scholarshop, and administrative responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Church History Department.  Teaching graduate courses in the field of Adventist Studies and Church History, providing academic advisement, maintaining an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations, sitting on dissertation committtees, and other duties as assigned to the position.

We seek a qualified candidate who has an earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD), has demonstrated a mastery in the areas of Ellen G. White studies and Adventist Studies, is committed to teamwork and collegiality, has excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with students and colleagues with a wide range of national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing, committed to an Adventist lifestyle.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Teach full load of courses in Adventist Studies and Church History at the masters and doctoral levels

  2. Advise and provide mentorship to masters and doctoral students

  3. Provide advocacy and leadership in the area of Adventist Studies and Church History to the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond)

  4. Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities

  5. Carry regular faculty responsibility related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration



Supervisory responsibilities


  1. Work with administrative assistant

  2. Oversee graduate assistant



Qualifications


  1. An earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) and demonstrated a mastery in the areas of Ellen G. White Studies and Adventist Studies

  2. Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level in English

  3. Experience in teaching and/or pastoral ministry in the Adventist Church

  4. Record of academic engagement and publications is desired along with a potential research agenda in area of expertise

  6. An understanding of adult learning practices and how to apply it in the context of theological education

  7. Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting winseomely with students and staff

  8. A personal history of healthy human relations, high moral integrity and Christian spiritual maturity

  9. Abilities and commitment to mentor students

  10. Solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs, lifestyle, and mission

  11. A member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good and regular standing
