HIGHER EDUCATION - Online Quality Assurance Specialist

Position summary
The Online Quality Assurance Specialist for the Department of Digital Learning and Instructional Technology (DLiT) will provide highly skilled professional service to meet the instructional design needs of faculty who are teaching online or blended courses. Provide service in the areas of: a) quality assurance; b) documentation and resource creation; c) project support and maintenance; and d) supporting online course design. The Online Quality Assurance Specialist will report to the online Course Manager.
Qualifications summary

- Teaching experience required
- Evidence of courses or training in learning theory and instructional design
- Experience in higher education instructional design support preferred
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Ensure that online courses meet the Andrews University standards and requirements for teaching online.
- Review course of study/learning resources/assessments to ensure proper alignment to the intended objectives.
- Review and edit curricular materials including competency statements, learning objectives, and other relevant documentation.
- Share research and contribute ideas to improve the quality and efficiency course development processes.
- Coordinate, support, and provide training for Instructional Facilitators on online course template design and consistent best practices across online courses
- Periodically review every online course for learning design, alignment to best practices, alignment of assessment within the course, use of the appropriate template, usability for students, accessibility.
- Oversee and maintain records regarding the use of copyrighted materials in online courses.
- Supervise the Online Course Review graduate student and external reviewers.
- Collaboratively shape online teaching and learning guidelines.
- Research and support the continuous quality improvement of online courses.
- Attend professional conferences, research new trends, and report back to relevant audiences.
- Serve on university committees related to online and blended instructional design.
- Work closely with Associate Dean, Course Manager, and other Specialists as a team where necessary, and also work on own initiative where appropriate.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise the Online Course Review graduate student and external reviewers.
Qualifications
- PhD degree preferred
- Teaching experience required
- Evidence of courses or training in learning theory and instructional design
- Experience in higher education instructional design support preferred
- Thorough understanding of curriculum development, instructional design, and test development.
- Thorough understanding of project management, needs assessment, and risk management.
- Superior critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Curiosity about and commitment to learning cutting edge technologies for support of online and blended education
- Knowledge of instructional design principles
- Knowledge of online course development standards and procedures
- Experience providing professional development in group and individualized sessions
- Knowledge of educational theories, including instructional systems design, and adult learning theory

Technical competencies
- Skilled in using web and media based technologies for education such as but not limited to video, GoogleDocs, webinar software, and Web 2.0 tools to support blended and online learning
- Knowledge of Moodle LMS is preferred; other LMS experience, such as with Blackboard, Canvas, ANGEL, WebCT, and Desire2Learn, is a plus
- Knowledge of educational applications of social media
- Quick learner, specifically as it relates to computers and computer applications

Physical demands
Must be able to focus on a computer screen for length of time
Work environment
The DLiT office is a semi-open space with moderate noise. Customers come and go, receiving assistance from multiple team members. Multiple meetings with customers may occur in a semi-open space at the same time.
