Position summary
Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the classroom program and child assessment. Oversees caregiving staff for the 5-12 year old children and overall care and supervision of these children.
Qualifications summary
- Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of Early Childhood Education or Development.
- Meet State of Michigan requirements for Lead Caregiver.
- Must be at least 19 years of age with high school diploma.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the classroom program and child assessment.
- Overseeing caregiving staff for the 5-12 year old children and overall care and supervision of these children.
- Plans individual and group activities to stimulate spiritual growth and growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
- Prepares a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean, appealing, and permits the child to grow and to explore. (Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom).
- Treating each child with dignity and respect.
- Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.
- Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue. Supervises all activities to ensure the child's safety at all time.
- Helps children develop habits of caring for own clothing, picking up and puttying away toys and books.
- Establishes and maintains good communication with parents through parent conferences, upon request and daily reports through the year.
- Coordinates snacks, meals, rest time and bathroom activities.
- Assists the Director in explaining the program to visitors.
- Attends staff meetings and recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth.
- Assisting in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
- Maintains professional attitudes and loyalty to the school at all times.
- Must maintain a positive work environment.
- Observes all rules and regulations of The Crayon Box and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervises and guides other assistant teachers and student caregivers. Provide a daily routine and schedule of the other caregivers' responsibilities in the classroom.
Qualifications
- Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of Early Childhood Education or Development.
- Meet State of Michigan requirements for Lead Caregiver.
- Must be at least 19 years of age with high school diploma.
- Must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults
- Must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for the program continuity.
- Ability to communicate will and appropriately with children, parents, and other workers.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports.
- Make multiple split decisions, keep in touch with children's needs and prioritize their demands.
Lead caregivers shall have both of the following qualifications:
- (a) Be at least 19 years of age.
- (b) Have a high school diploma or GED.
Lead caregivers shall meet 1 of the following qualifications:
(a) Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child
development, or a child-related field
(b) Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education or child
development
(c) Montessori credential with 480 hours of experience
(d) Valid child development associate credential with
480 hours of experience
(e) High school diploma/ GED with 12 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a Child-Related Field with 960 hours of experience
(f) High school diploma/ GED with a combination of: 12 semester hours and/or 18 CEUs to equal 180 clock hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a Child-Related Field with 1,920 hours of experience
(g) High school diploma/ GED with a combination of: 6 semester hours and/or 9 CEUs to equal 90 clock hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a Child-Related Field with 3,840 hours of experience
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
The employee must be able to operate at a reasonable level of competency, equipment common to the teaching profession, such as a computer, copy machine, paper cutter, VCR/DVD player, overhead projector, telephone, scanner, digital camera, digital video camera, and tools such as brooms, dust pans, mops, vacuums, etc.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with parents and teachers.
Must love children.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Will push lunch cart to the cafeteria and back daily in various weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
Work environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
