Position summary
Teaching classes in the department's Part 141 flight program and Part 147 maintenance program. We prefer the ability to teach in both areas, but will consider individual that can teach in only one area.
Flight instruct in single and multi-engine aircraft.
Maintain active research.
Advising students and other academic related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications summary
Bachelor’s degree
FAA Ratings:
Flight;
- Commercial Multi-engine airplane, prefer ATP.
- CFI, CFII and MEI certificates or US military experience
- Prefer Part 121, or Part 135 or equivalent military experience.
Maintenance;
- A&P certificate, prefer IA and experience on light and heavy aircraft.
Computer Proficient
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in the part141 Aviation Flight School, including teaching advanced aviation flight topics.
Teach undergraduate courses in the part147 Aviation Maintenance School, including both theory and lab classes.
Flight instruct in single and multi-engine aircraft.
Maintaining active research including involving students in that research.
Providing academic advising to current aviation students.
Other academic and committee responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities
Assist with the supervision of the student flight instructors.
Assist with the weekly supervision of all flight line activities.
Assist with the supervision of student lab assistants.
Qualifications
Successful applicants will possess at least a Bachelor’s degree. A PhD or Masters in aviation or a related field is preferred.
Applicants must hold the following FAA certificates:
Flight - Commercial Multi-engine/single-engine class Airplane certificate.
An ATP is preferred.
Maintenance – A&P certificate, IA preferred
Current, or previously held and eligible to renew Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor, and Multi-engine Instructor certificates (Equivalent US military experience will be considered).
Prior experience in FAA part 141 and/or 147 flight schools, turbine engine type ratings, mission or bush flying experience is highly desirable. Maintenance experience on light and heavy aircraft, piston and turbine engines.
Technology proficient (MS Office, iPad, Online scheduling, ATP maintenance software).
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
Flight Applicants must hold a FAA Commercial Multi-engine/Single Engine land airplane license. An ATP is preferred.
Maintenance Applicants must hold a FAA A&P certificate. An IA is preferred
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with students in a teaching role.
Physical demands
Must be able to perform basic aircraft line support functions including moving aircraft, fueling, and loading aircraft.
Must be able to get into and out of small single and multi-engine aircraft.
Must be able to perform all maintenance function on GA and light turbine aircraft.
Work environment
In addition to teaching in the classroom, the applicant must be able to work outside on the aircraft flight line in all types of Michigan weather.
