Position summary

The individual will hold a faculty position in the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary Old Testament Department. She/he will have teaching, advising, service, scholarship, and administrative responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Old Testament Department.

Qualifications summary

We seek a qualified candidate who has en earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD), has demonstrated a mastery in the areas of Old Testament exegesis and theology, is committed to teamwork and collegiallity, has excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with students and colleagues with wide range of national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Teach a full load of courses in Old Testament studies at the masters and doctoral levels

  2. Advise and provide mentorship to masters and doctoral students

  3. Provide advocacy and leadership in the area of Old Testament studies, and possibly also Jewish studies, for the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond)

  4. Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities

  5. Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration.



Supervisory responsibilities

1. Work with administrative assistant.

2. Supervise graduate assistant.

Qualifications


1.  An earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in the area of Old Testament studies with an emphasis in biblical exegesis

2.   Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on popular and scholarly levels

3. Experience in teaching and/or pastoral ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist Church is expected



4. Record of academic engagement and publications is expected along with a research agenda in the area of expertise; a secondary area of Jewish studies that is already begun or interest in developing such a sub-focus is desirable

5. An understanding of adult learning practices and how to apply it in the context of theological education

6. Good interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting well with students and staff

7. A personal history of healthy human relations, high moral integrity, and Christian spiritual maturity

8. Commitment to mentor students

9.  Solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

Technical competencies expected in using PowerPoint presentation and ability to use electronic research tools (logos, bible works, accordance, etc.)

Interpersonal interactions

The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, ability to colaborate well with colleagues and work with students with different ethnic and national backgrounds.

Physical demands

The candidate should have abilities to fulfill teaching load and all responsibilities as expected by the Old Testament Department

Work environment

Spacious office and excellent classrooms with necessary technical support for conducting class presentations.
