Position summary
The Associate/Full Professor of Public Health, Nutrition & Dietetics holds a faculty appointment having academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Department of Public Health, Nutrition & Wellness, the School of Health Professions and Andrews University. This individual demonstrates competence in didactic education, teaching, research and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Qualifications summary
Must be a holder of one of the following degree combinations from an accredited school/program/institution:
- Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) or PhD in Public Health. RD/RDN credential preferred
- PhD in a Nutrition related field, with MPH. RD/RDN credential preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Work as a team and be an active member of the department
- Minimum 3-4 years teaching experience
- Conduct research - evidence of scholarship, publications preferred
- Form good student and peer relationships
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
TEACHING/SCHOLARSHIP/ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching Experience. Dynamic presenter, speaker, lecturer preferred.
- Teach online MPH courses (Graduate) and advise MPH students
- Teach Nutrition Science & Dietetics courses (undergraduate)
- Review, update (and create as needed) applicable syllabi for courses assigned
- Student advising and mentoring
- Supervise graduate students’ scholarly projects - supports and encourages student scholarship.
- Participates in accreditation preparation and visit when applicable
- Maintain weekly office hours as required by policy to be available to students.
- Attends and makes contributions to Department, MPH & Nutrition program meetings. Attends university and SHP meetings as assigned.
- Participates in collaborative research. Develops manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals. Attends & submits abstracts to professional conferences (APHA, FNCE, ect).
- Seeks and develops funding relationships to write and submit grant proposals
- Participates in department, school and university's committees as required by policy.
- Maintains professional credentials
- Works collaboratively across local, regional and/or national sectors with diverse, strong, and influential partners to achieve common goal
- Establish relationships with practicum sites at various locations
- Participates in department yearly academic, social and recruiting activities –supports departments initiatives

Technical competencies
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. Microsoft outlook suite, word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Ability to navigate the online environment and work with Learning Management System (LMS) – Learning Hub preferred but training will be given.
- Experience with statistical software (ie SPSS, SAS, ect) a plus
- Experience with social media platforms welcomed.
Interpersonal interactions
- Must be comfortable interacting with students in an advisory role.
- Must be comfortable interacting with multiethnic and multinational faculty and student population
Physical demands
- Regularly: Sit, talk, hear and use hands to work with the computer keyboard.
- Occasionally: Walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop and kneel for filing.
- Occasionally: Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Vision abilities required: Close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment
- Classes will be taught mostly in Marsh Hall, Andrews University.
- Occasional meetings off campus
- Online courses will be taught through the Learning Management System (Moodle/LearningHub).
