Position summary
The Andrews Community Counseling Center (located in Bell Hall) is seeking desk monitors for Spring semester. Shifts are available during morning, afternoon, and evening hours. The position is for 5-15 hours a week, depending on interest and availability. Desk monitor responsibilities include opening and closing the center, answering calls, data entry, and assisting clients and therapists.

Qualifications summary
- Must be a current Andrews University student. Graduate student preferred, but not required.
- The following competencies are required: organizational skills, attention to detail, computer skills, English language proficiency, writing and verbal skills, dependability and punctuality.
- Must protect client confidentiality.
- A background check is required as a part of the hiring process
- On-the-job training will be provided
- No religious affiliation is required or given preference
Duties and responsibilities
General-Administrative:
- First shift desk monitor opens the ACCC 15 minutes prior to the official ACCC opening time (so therapists can prepare)
- Final shift desk monitor should be able to stay up to 15 minutes after the official ACCC closing time (to tidy up the ACCC and to give therapists time to return files)
- Give new clients the Client Survey Sheet and Parking Permit instructions
- Administer Client Outcome Questionnaires using Kindle Fire tablets
- Understand how equipment works (to assist therapists) and troubleshoot equipment problems and report problems that were not resolved
- Ensure adequate inventory of supplies and forms; report needs
- Ensure professional use of the ACCC computers for ACCC-related work only
- Maintain general professional environment and cleanliness
- Maintain professional and modest attire
- Take initiative to address any issue related to the smooth functioning of the ACCC as a professional service center
Clinical:
- First shift desk monitor ensures therapy rooms are ready for use (ensure rooms are tidy, furniture organized, tissue box present, etc.)
- First shift desk monitor ensures client files and work areas are accessible
- First shift desk monitor processes voice mail messages
- Final shift desk monitor ensures client files and media are secured
- Final shift desk monitor shuts down and secures the ACCC and materials
- Process initial client requests for services
- Process client documentation as needed in the database
- Protect privacy of therapists and clients
- Assess suicide risk if it is mentioned during the client’s initial request for services and refer if urgent
Other:
- Other duties as requested by the Clinic Coordinator or Director
Supervisory responsibilities
Oversees general ACCC functioning and implementation of policies and procedures

Technical competencies
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to learn other software programs
- Regular maintenance of personal email account
- Comfortable using Kindle Fire tablets
- Competent use of phone
- Capable of using photocopier/scanner
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with counselors, faculty supervisors, prospective and current clients both in-person and on the phone in a professional, cheerful, and helpful manner.
Physical demands
- Must be able to sit in an office chair for the length of the assigned shift.
- Must be able to complete work on the computer.
- Must be able to do light lifting.
- Must be able to do light cleaning (vacuuming, dusting, etc.)
Work environment
The ACCC is an office setting located in Bell Hall, in the Graduate Psychology and Counseling wing.
