PLANT SERVICE - Carpenter

  Hourly Full-time (35-40)

Position summary

Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment in establishment by performing the following duties: rotates weekly schedule and or weekend shifts with other carpenters to take regular service calls, also performs emergency services beyond regularly scheduled work hours as required or needed. May be called in at any time to assist with emergency repairs as needed regardless of the on call rotation. Must stay within fifteen minutes of the University for quick response when on call.

Qualifications

Carpentry work of at least 6 months of hands-on experience.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Current USA or Canadian Driver’s License

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger handle, or feel.  The employee frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception

Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic chemicals; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
