Position summary
Reporting to the Director of Student Success, the Student Intervention and Disabilities Services Coordinator provides support to the University Student Intervention Team (USIT), Diversity Council, departments, faculty, and staff in response to students dealing with challenging and complex issues. In addition, this individual provides opportunity to students with disabilities to assure equivalent avenues to higher education programs, services, and benefits.
Qualifications summary
The successful candidate will posess a Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Social Work, along with three (3) years expeience or comparable education and experience. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal communication, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
The Student Intervention and Disabilities Services Coordinator shall perform the following functions:
Student Intervention Coordinator
1. Develop individualized success plans
- Meet with individual students to identify risk factors and develop succes plans
- Collaborates with faculty and support services
- Makes referrals to appropriate services as needed
- May track student success throughout the semester
- Teaches specific study skills, time management, organization skills as needed
- In some cases, will send written success plans to advisors, or other faculty
2. Conduct Success orientated assmeblies and seminars for effective academic strategies for all students
- New Student Orientation activities
- Co-Curricular program
- Other progras as requested by departments, residence halls, etc.
3. Collaboration with faculty and staff
- Member of the University Student Intervention Team (USIT)
- Develops close working relationships with departments, faculty, and staff to facilitate success strategies
- Understands and supports campus policies, and educational expectations
- Facilitates communication related to student success between various departments and faculty
- Facilitates medical and family leaves, both long term and short term

Retain documentation of success activities
- Maintains records and documents related to student success
Disabilities Services Coordinator
1. Evaluates students’ documentation of disabilities
- Guides students on type of documentation required
- Studies documentation and interviews students to identify life activities related to university life which need to be accommodated
- Inquire of professionals providing documentation when additional information is required
2. Coordinates and facilitates disability accommodations
- Develops individual accommodation plans and forms to notify faculty
- Proctors exams in testing center
- Collects or creates accessible materials for students
3. Collaborates with faculty and staff
- Member of Diversity Council
- Referrals from faculty and staff
- Works with faculty and staff to identify best ways to accommodate students with disabilities
4. Maintains disability accommodations and activities documentation
- Keeps up to date files on students with disabilities
- Files e-mails, notes, and other communications
5. Is informed about legal responsibilities related to disabilities
- Active memberships in disability organizations
- Participation in relevant conferences
- Contact as needed with university legal council

Qualifications

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with appropriate climate controls. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There is moderate noise from the office printer, traffic from students and staff moving through the office suite, and some conversations between students and staff.
