Position summary
This position is for a certified, innovative teacher to teach Science and Social Studies in Jr. High grades (7&8). Candidates must be proficient in the core/STEM subjects, demonstrate commitment to collegiality and professional competence, and have a passion to instill a Christ-like character while inspiring students to strive for excellence in their total development. The employee will perform all supervisory and extracurricular responsibilities expected of a full-time elementary classroom teacher. RMES is the K-8 laboratory School at Andrews University and has an enrollment of about 220 students.
Qualifications summary
To perform this job successfully, candidates must have the minimum qualifications of a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, current NAD denominational and MI State certification, or be eligible to obtain both. Be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is willing to build relationships with all stakeholders. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing and have a passion for service and sharing the love of Jesus with students and the community.

Duties and responsibilities
The employee will be expected to:
- Prepare and provide appropriate learning experiences consistent with Adventist philosophy.
- Participate in student supervision during on-and off-campus school-related activities
- Model exemplary Christ-like behavior.
- Work harmoniously with fellow staff members, the board, constituents, administration and colleagues at Andrews University, and the Office of Education.
- Keep himself/herself professionally up-to-date and maintains current denominational and state certification.
- Participate in professional extracurricular activities such as, but not limited to:
- Faculty meetings
- Parent-teacher conferences
- Home and School meetings
- Teacher conventions and in-service
Expectations for classroom organization and management including ability to:
- Provide a safe, nurturing, dynamic, learning environment.
- Cooperate with administration to initiate and implement policies and procedures to foster continuous improvement.
- Manage classroom routines effectively and implement school procedures.
- Demonstrate effective planning skills using NAD Curriculum Guides.
- Do yearly long-range planning.
- Create weekly lesson plans and teach those plans to the entire class, small groups, and/or to individual students.
- Utilize a variety of instruction and assessment strategies.
- Empower and evaluate students' ability to communicate and collaborate with others.
- Grade students' work and track student progress.
- Maintain accurate information to share with parents.
- Use time wisely.
- Promote the school's mission, vision, and values.
- Maintain a Christ-centered, orderly, classroom.
Supervisory responsibilities
- This position requires supervision of various in and out of classroom activities.
- Paramount is students’ health and safety
- Careful plans must be made and implemented to ensure adequate supervision of students from the time employee receives them at school until the time they are released to parents.
- The basic rule is that children must be within sight of an employee or have been given permission to be out of the adult’s presence for a specific and prudent purpose.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, candidates must have the minimum qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in elementary education
2. Certification
a. Current NAD denominational
b. MI State certification
c. Or be eligible to obtain both
3. Be knowledgeable of the NAD Curriculum standards
4. Demonstrate competence in implementing best practice in a variety of teaching, learning and assessment methodologies.
5. Be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is willing to build relationships with all stakeholders.
6. Be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing with a passion for service and sharing the love of Jesus with students and the community.

Technical competencies
The employee must be able to operate at a reasonable level of competency, equipment common to the teaching profession, such as a computer, overhead projector, copy and laminating machines, paper cutter, telephone, document camera. Must also be able to manage online grade books, including NAD data roll up.

Physical demands
The job requires a full range of body motion including sitting, standing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, walking, stooping, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, and reaching cupboards, cabinets, bulletin and white boards, and keyboard use/repetitive hand motion. The job also requires good hearing and vision adequate for assigned responsibilities.
Work environment
The employee is subject to working in a generally well-lighted and ventilated classroom environment approximately 85% of the time while the remainder of the time is spent teaching or supervising students outside, in the gymnasium, on field trips, etc.
