Position summary
The Associate Chaplain is in integral part of the Andrews University Office of Campus Ministries which is grounded in the mission of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church.The Associate Chaplain provides faith development opportunities and spiritual care for students, faculty and staff, enriches the spiritual and intellectual life of campus, assists in building a vibrant University community of faith and learning and helps further the lofty mission of Andrews University to Seek Knowledge, Affirm Faith and Change the World.
Qualifications summary
Campus Ministries seeks to build a team with a diversity of experience, skills, gifts, and backgrounds that includes the following as well as the qualities outlined in the qualification section below.
- MDiv degree is required
- Commissioned or ordained minister credential is required
- Experience as a Campus Chaplain is strongly preferred.
- Chaplaincy Endorsement is preferred
- Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is preferred
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- The Associate Chaplain assists the University Chaplain in strategic planning, assessment and the implementation processes for comprehensive faith development programming
- Provides leadership in key areas of Campus Ministries programming that may include various faith building activities, as community development and outreach, and fostering the faith-development of student clubs.
- The Associate Chaplain will provide leadership, support, and be an intregal part of the New Life Campus Fellowship.
- The Associate Chaplain fosters faith-development initiatives and spiritual care within the graduate student population.
- The Associate Chaplain is supported by the University Chaplain and the partnership with an additional Associate Chaplain as well as a team of student chaplains.
- .Assists in processes that intentionally seek to build positive relationships between students and Chaplains and engage students in the spiritual life of campus.
- Is responsible for the budget for all programs in his/her direct down line of programming.
- Maintains professional growth through involvement in professional organizations and other activities such as Campus Ministries programs and missions.
- Participates in Campus Ministries committees and others as assigned.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervises and mentors student chaplains and student leaders as well as other programatic aspects of Campus Minisitres as assigned.

- Demonstrated effectiveness of inclusive ministry with diverse populations
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
Should possess at minimum, basic competency in computer skills.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable and effective working with the diverse population of Andrews University that includes students, faculty, and staff. Must have a warm and approachable personality. Must have a willing and passionate desire to help others and to develop students leaders. Seeks to be team orientated and partnerships to foster a vibrant culture of faith development.
Physical demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by any employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, climb and to use the senses of sight, touch, hearing, speech, and smell.
A strong physical stamina is required to handle the stress of multiple responsibilities and the critical decisions and crisis care that impact student lives. Thus, along with the various programs of Campus Ministries this position will often demand intensive, 7 day work weeks that may average 50 hours per week and often includes evenings.
