PLANT ADMINISTRATION - Director Facilities Management

Position summary

Serves as director of the physical plant and is responsible to the Vice President for Financial Administration.

Qualifications summary

Manage all major projects on campus which includes working with architects, contractors, in house maintenance, and inspectors. Must be able to lead out in construction meetings. Processes most invoices associated with projects. Keeps Administration updated on progress and budget of projects.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Work with departmental Managers on small remodeling projects.

Counsel with Managers and approve major equipment needed for their departments.

Oversees and processes most major purchases for Campus.  

Be responsible for directing the keying of University buildings.   

Authorize the dispensing of all master and sub-master keys.

Manages hazardous waste inspections and disposal on Campus including Air Park.

Manages compliance on applicable environmental regulations.

Authorize scheduling of Managers vacations.  

Counsel with Managers and with the Director of Human Resources in personal matters of the staff in the departments under the supervision of the Director of Plant Administration.  

Authorize travel requests and expense reports for the physical plant personnel.  

Chairs the Art and Signage Committee. 

Act on various committees as assigned by the University Administration.  

Develop and manage the budget for the Physical Plant.  

Be available to work in the Physical Plant departments in emergencies as needed.   

Supervisory responsibilities

Is responsible for supervising the Managers of the following departments:        

Campus Arboretum (Grounds), Custodial Services, Plant Services, Transportation.

Supervise and manage new construction and renovations on Campus.

Qualifications

Must have a broad knowledge of facilities management including repair, renovations, and new construction.  Must be service-oriented to work well with students, faculty, and staff as well as the community.

Must have a high school education and 4 years experience in construction and facilities maintenance prefered.

Must speak English fluently.

Must have a working knowledge of math.

Must have the ability to work your way through complex situations and problems in a timely manner.

Must carry the Storm Water Certificate for the University.

Must have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to assist with commercial driving emergencies in the Transportaiton Department.

Physical demands

A moderate amount of physical activity is required.  Sitting, walking, lifting, and climbing could all be involved.

Work environment

Most of the work day is spent in the office.  Other time could be spent walking the campus, inspecting buildings, grounds, equipment, roofs, roads, parking lots, and sidewalks.  The environment could vary considerably during this process.
