VISUAL ART, DESIGN & COMMUNICATION - Full-Time Media Production Professor

Position summary

The assistant or associate professor in digital communication (or related area of emphasis) will teach undergraduate level courses comprised of media production, as well as the candidate’s potential area(s) of specialization which may include motion graphics, script writing, cinematography, photojournalism, social media, etc. They will also continue to expand the departmental programs based on their industry experience. Additionally, assists with the management of the production studios and advises students in their curriculum, classes, and projects.

Qualifications summary

Interested applicants should hold a minimum of a masters degree in Film, Video, Media, Arts, Technology, or related field. A Master of Fine Arts degree is preferred.



A minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates passion and practical experience in commercial production, and/or related areas as listed in the description.

A commitment to teamwork/collegiality. 



Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in mentoring students and guiding them through their creative projects.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Teaches undergraduate students in media production and other possible areas coming out of their industry experience. Depending on background and experience, potential courses by topic include but are not limited to: intro to film, post-production, social media, media technology, cinematography, sound and editing, etc.

Assists with the management of the production facilities and post-production editing suites. 



Advises students, and oversees some student research and student projects. 



Provides service to the department, school and university on appropriate committees and projects.

Supervisory responsibilities

Supervise student workers.

Qualifications

Technical competencies

Experience with multiple NLE, color grading, and 2D/3D motion design and compositing platforms. Knowledge with Adobe Suite platforms, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve. Additional areas of specialization or focus such as emerging media, communications, photography, experimental media, are encouraged. Candidates with university-level teaching experience are highly preferred.

Physical demands

Stand, talk and demonstrate at a level to be understood for two or more hours at one time as required for lecture sessions.

Ambulate approximately 500 yards and negotiate 2 flights of stairs to get around campus as needed.

Be able to perform physical tasks relevant to the teaching load.

Work environment conditions are similar to those found in any regular office and classroom environment.

Classes will be taught mostly between Nethery Hall and Buller Hall, Andrews University.

May be required to teach evening courses as well as online courses using Zoom (Video Conferencing) or Course Learning Management System (Moodle/LearninghHub).
