Position summary
The Learning Systems Administrator is responsible for technical support of the official university-wide instructional technology systems (such as the Learning Management System, video hosting solution, etc.). The Learning Management Systems Administrator reports to the Director of the Center for Digital Learning and Instructional Technology (DLiT).
Qualifications summary
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of education field strongly preferred
- Experience in higher education instructional technology technical support preferred
- Must have experience working with MySQL query creation, SFTP, PHP, HTML5, CSS, Web 2.0 tools
- Knowledge of Moodle LMS is preferred. Additional LMS experience (such as Desire2Learn) is a plus
- Absolute dedication to on-going client communication, providing frequent updates on deliverables, milestones, known issues and timelines
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Support, innovate, troubleshoot, and maintain the university Learning Management System (currently LearningHub, powered by Moodle)
- Lead efforts to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve LMS-related system issues. Help identify and prevent problems before they occur
- Maintain an effective working relationship with the university LMS hosting provider (Moonami)
- Test, maintain and request deployment of Moodle plug-ins and integrations to meet various instructional needs
- Provide on-going client communication, including frequent updates on deliverables, milestones, known issues and timelines.
- Ensure the Learning Management System (LMS) is correctly configured and administered; verify that data integrity is maintained; and make certain the interfaces with other systems are functional and optimized
- Support the integration of technology-enabled learning across the enterprise, such as social learning, mobile learning, and performance support systems
- Provide and oversee LMS support to faculty and staff
- Work closely with ITS to provide API connections and integrations between various instructional systems such as the LMS, assessment and accreditation tools, media server solutions, and Banner
- Manage integrations between instructional tools and the LMS, including videoconferencing (Zoom), plagiarism checking (TurnItIn), streaming video (Panopto), open source instructional tools (Webworks), and textbook publisher sites (Cengage, etc.)
- Work closely with ITS and UC to create web solutions and integrations as needed
- Serve on university committees related to the use of instructional technology
- Provide and oversee efficient and timely Help Desk support for problems and issues related to instructional technology systems
- Research and resolve problems, unexpected results or process flaws and recommend solutions or alternate methods to meet requirements
- Keep up-to-date on current developments in instructional technology software and hardware as they relate to higher education
- Attend professional conferences, research new trends, and report back to relevant audiences
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise helpdesk staff and student workers
Qualifications

Technical competencies
- Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining applications and systems in high traffic volume web sites
- Must have experience working with MySQL query creation, SFTP, PHP, HTML5, CSS, Web 2.0 tools
- Knowledge of Moodle LMS is preferred. Additional LMS experience (such as Desire2Learn) is a plus
- Knowledge of web application security considerations

- Experience working with third-party vendors and ability to support/troubleshoot different layers

- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks with competing priorities in a high-pressured results and timeline driven environment
Physical demands
Must be able to focus on a computer screen for length of time
Work environment
The Department of Digital Learning and Instructional Technology is a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. We are always learning from each other, sharing ideas, giving feedback, and celebrating successes. The DLiT office is a semi-open space with moderate noise. Customers come and go, receiving assistance from multiple team members. Multiple meetings with customers may occur in a semi-open space at the same time.
