Position summary

This is a half time position to teach Spanish language courses from elementary to advanced levels. The academic load will be 12-14 credits per academic year, divided into two semesters. No teaching assignment during summer time.
Responsibilities also include student advising, mentoring, organizing co-curricular activities, promoting study abroad, translating documents, attending faculty meetings, servicing in university committees, completing research in the respective academic field.

Qualifications summary

Minimum of a Master's degree in Spanish from an accredited university. At least 3 years of experience teaching at the higher education level. Complete fluency in speaking and writing the Spanish language. Excellent knowledge in both Spanish and Latin American culture. 
 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Teach four courses in a year (two every semester) for a total of 12-13 credits for the academic year.
Teach all levels of Spanish language courses from elementary to advanced.
Teach Spanish and Latin American culture courses
Update course content as need it
Keep at least six office hours every week.
Advise students majoring or minoring in Spanish
Attend faculty meetings
Participate in assigned committees
Sponsor clubs and/or student organizations if requested
Organize Department Assemblies
Promote academic programs offered by the ILGS Department
Advertise and promote the ACA Study Abroad program 
Participate in Junior/Senior Previews
Participate in all activities organized by the ILGS Department

Supervisory responsibilities

Supervise Spanish language labs 
Supervise work of readers

Qualifications

MA or PhD in Spanish from an accredited institution
Three years of experience teaching at a higher education level
Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish
Excellent student's evaluations
Outstanding knowledge of the Spanish and Latin American cultures
Experience of  cultural and language immersion in a Spanish speaking country
Experience attending national or international conferences


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

Be prepared to teach online courses
Be aware of the use of textbook websites to supplement the teaching of courses.
Good knowledge of  the Learning Hub platform

Interpersonal interactions

Must be comfortable working with a team
Must be comfortable working with students in advising as well as explaining course content outside classtime.
Must be able to see students during weekly office hours
Must be able and willing to participate in activities during weekends or evenings.

Physical demands

Physical abilities as needed to fulfill teaching responsibilities. Some classes are taught in classrooms located on the second floor of the building, however an elevator could be used instead of regular stairs. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions. Little to no lifting or carrying is required beyond supplies needed for course instruction (i.e. textbooks, laptop).
