Position summary
The Wellness Club Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Wellness Club within the Andreasen Center for Wellness as well as care of the Andreasen Center for Wellness facility. This includes, but is not limited to, leadership, strategic and overall planning, budgets and finances, human resources, public relations, marketing, membership; staff, customer and vendor communications; new business development, facility operations, space/room management and staff supervision.
Qualifications summary
The Wellness Club Manager must be dependable, task-oriented, self-motivated, business-oriented, have solid technological and communication abilities, strong organizational and self-management skills. The Wellness Club Manager must be motivated, focused, outcome-driven and flexible to adapt to the developing facets of a new Wellness Club operation.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Wellness Club
- Supervises all Wellness Club staff and student workers to meet the established operational goals of the Directors for University Wellness, Aquatics and Athletics.
- Works closely with the Director for University Wellness to develop all programs and services of the Wellness Club
- Leads and oversees the membership and marketing campaigns/processes
- Manages and oversees custodial, maintenance and repairs of the facility and equipment therein utilizing best practices to mitigate risk according to industry standards and recommendations (from OSHA and the CDC) for health and safety
- Builds and maintains an effective, professional and cutting-edge Wellness Club team
- Develops and maintains a detailed operational plan.
- Measures progress, development and performance of the Wellness Club operations and its staff using appropriate tools and techniques
- Manages changes to the project/operational scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate verification techniques
- Develops budget preparation within University targets and ensures resource availability and allocation in partnership with the Director for University Wellness
- Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation of all operations and projects
- Maintains fiscal responsibility of the Wellness Club operations and provides monthly reports to supervisor and as requested by administration.
- Coordinates internal resources and third parties/vendors
- Manages the relationship with supervisor, team, staff, members and all stakeholders
- Performs risk management processes to minimize project risks
- Establishes and maintains relationships with third parties/vendors
Supervisory responsibilities
- Hires, supervises, trains, oversees and terminates Wellness Club staff and student workers
- Ensures that all Wellness Club staff and student workers complete tasks efficiently, professionally and successfully
- Manages time sheets and other administrative duties related to managing Wellness Club staff and student workers
Qualifications
- Graduate degree from an accredited university, college, or institution of higher learning preferred. MBA preferred.
- Five years of professional work experience in management, supervision, marketing, program development and/or sales preferred.
- Highly advanced skills in effectively overseeing and managing staff, finances and other resources.
- Experience in fitness/wellness programming and settings required.
- Highly advanced communication and other interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.

Technical competencies
Must possess excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and OS X. Ability to learn new software and online programs independently and quickly.
Interpersonal interactions
Candidate will interact with senior University administrators and managers, staff, students, external company/organization leadership and the general public. Must be able to communicate effectively and be courteous when interacting with others to create a positive impression. In addition, the Wellness Club Manager should be able to maintain a high level of positive energy and enthusiasm as it relates to health, wellness and fitness.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand/sit/walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Handling and moving small to heavy large equipment will be part of this job on a daily basis. Carrying or assisting human beings may also be a requirement at times of emergency, injury or special circumstances.
Work environment
Typical office conditions, fitness center, aquatics center, outdoors, equipment storage and other conditions are possible. Noise level will be moderate to high.
