Position summary

The Director of the Architecture Resource Center (ARC) reports to the Dean of Libraries and provides leadership in all aspects of the operation of this branch, located in the School of Architecture & Interior Design. This is a 12-month faculty position with responsibilities in librarianship, service, teaching, research and publication. 

Qualifications summary

A Master's of Library Science degree from an accredited ALA program or its equivalent required.  Preferred qualifications include a degree in architecture, three to five years experience in a library with supervisory or management experience. Keep current with best practices of the profession.

 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Provides expertise and leadership in architecture librarianship, working collegially with faculty, staff and student employees to fulfill the mission of Andrews University.

Consults with the Dean of Libraries and Chairperson of SAID to review, assess and develop policies and procedures that govern the operations of the ARC.

Manages ARC circulation functions, provides reference services to patrons online and in person and conducts library instruction as a member of the liaison librarian team. 

Manages the physical arrangement of the ARC to facilitate service, security of library materials and optimum use of space.

Creatively innovates to promote, enhance and enrich library services to the Andrews University learning community, both within ARC, and with other library faculty.

Is responsible for collection development and weeding of ARC materials.

Presents budgetary needs for ARC resources to the Dean of Libraries and the Chairperson of School of Architecture & Interior Design, and manages the budget of the ARC.

Works with the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) to provide digital bibliographies for the annual conference and to maintain the EDRA Archives collection on site and on the Digital Commons.

Networks with colleagues in professional library organizations to identify and implement best practices at the ARC.

 Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates student assistants employed by the ARC. Creates a positive working and learning environment for students and colleagues.

Serves as secretary of the Architecture Resource Center Sub-Committee.

Prepares and reports monthly operating statistics, including student labor expenditure, to the Dean of Libraries.

Serves as secretary of the ARC Sub-committe

Serves on the James White Library administrative team and other library and university committees as elected or appointed.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervises and mentors staff and student employees to provide optimal service to the Andrews University learning community.

 

Qualifications

Commitment to Christ, personal spiritual maturity, and exemplary character

A Masters in Library Science degree from an accredited program

Proven competence in librarianship knowledge, skills and leadershhip

Experience in or potential for academic leadership

A commitment to mentor students and employees

Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically with patrons and colleagues

Technical competencies

Knowledge of automation systems

Proficiency with library-specific applications such as MARC FORMAT, OCLC Connexion, INNOPAC and Microsoft applications such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and academic databases

Interpersonal interactions

Must be comfortable interacting with the diverse university faculty, staff, administration and student population.

Physical demands

Physical abilities needed to fulfill routine daily functions.
