Position summary
University Towers is seeking a Student Dean who will assist the Director/Head Dean as an integral part of the student support team to provide care for residents beginning Fall 2020. They will assist with building relationship and creating a strong community atmosphere, This role suppots the management and direction of daily operations of University Towers.
Qualifications summary
- Must be over 22
- Registered full-time graduate student of Andrews University in Masters or Doctoral level program
- Preferred if you reside in University Towers but not required
- Must be able to work evenings and some weekends
- Related residence hall experience is required (RA, Desk)
- Previous residence hall dean or Student Life experience preferred
- Knowledge of and experience in student development, programming and implementation
- Strong spiritual, Christ-centered commitment and heart for ministry
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in responding to spiritual, social, emotional, physical, academic/professional needs of both male and female residents by providing care, support, and programming
- Help in facilitation of an environment which promotes community within University Towers
- Support management and direction of daily operation of University Towers & Guest Convention Services
- Provide consultation and wellness checks for residents as needed and assigned
- Lead & organize weekly Worship & Fellowship Experience
- Aid in University Towers communications including social media & newsletters
- Other job description areas as assigned
Supervisory responsibilities
Provide supervision of lobbies, residential areas, and activity center and give detailed reports of related issues
Qualifications
- Experience in program development and implementation
- Strong spiritual commitment to Christ with a deep commitment to ministry and student development
- Affective skills in administration, organization, customer service, communication, conflict management, counseling, teamwork, etc.
- Must have applied knowledge of the Residence Hall Handbook and Andrews University Student Handbook.
- Must be comfortable interacting and communicating with both female and male students, guests, faculty, staff and administration
- Must have valid drivers license
Technical competencies
- Experience and skills using web and media based technologies
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to use and manage social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Interpersonal interactions
- Ability to connect and build rapport with students
- Must be comfortable meeting and communicating with both female & male students
Physical demands
Ability to walk resident hall, using stairs for multiple floors
Ability to lift and carry items upto 50lbs.
Ability to sit for long period of times
Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when required (including masks and gloves)
Work environment
University Towers is a residential community comprised of two residence halls housing both male and female graduate students and undergraduates over 22 years old. University Towers Front Desk also provides Guest Services. The graduate student dean will have access to a shared office space.
