Position summary
Oversee all aspects of the School Counseling program as Program Coordinator. Responsibilities include managing the program to maintain accreditation standards with CACREP and the state, teaching graduate courses in the field of counseling and school counseling, providing academic advisement support to students in the program, responding to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit, participate in committees, maintaining an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations, sitting on dissertation committees, and other duties as assigned to the position.
Each faculty program coordinator will receive 4 credits of teaching load release time to administer the School Counseling program.
Qualifications summary
- Candidates are required to have a doctoral degree in Counselor Supervision & Education (preferably from a CACREP-accredited program), or a doctorate in a related field with experience teaching full-time in a counseling program for at least one year prior to July 2013, experience in online teaching and supervision of practicum/internship students. State licensure as a Counselor (LPC) or School Counselor
- Evidence of scholarship through research publications and presentations
- Advanced skills in verbal and written English
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Provide year-around administrative and curricular leadership for the School Counseling Program.
Lead out in curriculum development to ensure accreditation standards through CACREP and the state are maintained. Making certain courses contain essential curricular components and have appropriate content and pedagogy.
Participate in developing and implementing University policies, guiding principles, objectives, and functions in accordance with the philosophy of the University.
Be available to teach courses at various times, including evenings. Some travel may be required.
Be available to meet with prospective students and respond to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit
Oversee the budget necessary for the management of the program, including student activities, recruitment, and future program development opportunities.
Participate or Chair the Counselor Education core faculty meetings, participate in departmental, and school faculty meetings, serve on committees, and participate in other University activities.
Possess time management skills that allow for many demands and time constraints. These include meeting with students, attending meetings, course demands, and research requirements.
As program coordinator, maintain professional communication with all School Counseling students, keeping them informed and updated concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements. Assist in recruitment and retention of students; serve as academic advisor to assigned students; and post and maintain office hours for student consultations.
Stay informed of current trends and new approaches to counseling, and new developments in the counselor education field via professional development activities. Maintain professional development/growth according to personal needs and certification requirements.
Maintain an active research agenda demonstrated through presentations at national conferences, and publications. Participate in student dissertation committees, serving as either chair or member.
Supervisory responsibilities
Directly supervise 1-2 graduate assistants. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
