Position summary

SDA Theological Seminary Discipleship and Lifespan Education faculty member who will teach, advise, research, and carry other regular faculty responsibilities.

Qualifications summary

An earned PhD degree related to youth and young adult ministry (or closely related field) preferred. Prepared to teach and mentor students and communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level. 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Teach regular load of graduate-level courses and seminars in youth and young adult ministries; teach other courses related to discipleship in lifespan education;

  2. Advise masters and doctoral students, as needed;

  3. Provide advocacy and leadership in areas of expertise to the Seminary and Seventh-day Adventist Church and community;

  4. Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities;

  5. Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research, and publication, and direct the MA (Discipleship in Lifespan Education) program, if invited to do so.

  6. Engage students in real life ministry and practical experiences in the field.

  7. Willing to sign the seminary faculty delimitation statement.



Supervisory responsibilities


  1. Work with administrative assistant.

  2. Oversee graduate assistant.

  3. Assume Directorship of MA (Discipleship in Lifespan Education) if asked to do so.



Qualifications

In addition to that listed in the qualifications summary:


  1. Commitment to Christ, personal spiritual maturity and exemplary character;

  2. A commitment to service for the worldwide SDA Church and the community;

  3. A commitment to the Bible and biblical teaching;

  4. Pastoral experience required;

  5. Experience with ministering to and teaching youth and young adults; experience across the lifespan, children through elderly, would be an asset;

  6. Proven competence in teaching at the tertiary level, in leadership, and in significant service to the church;

  7. A record of academic engagement and publication and an on-going research agenda in social science, qualitative, and quantitative methodologies preferred;

  8. A commitment to mentor students;

  9. Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level and ability to engage in recruitment and marketing;

  10. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist having a healthy, balanced SDA identity with solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission.




Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies as needed to successfully perform teaching and researching responsibilities.

Interpersonal interactions

Must be comfortable interacting with students in advisory role and with faculty administration and student population.
