Position summary
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Social for the MSW Program will teach areas including graduate-level human behavior, policy, and human services. Background in clinical settings is desirable. Other responsibilities include academic advising and service to the department, University, and the surrounding community. Qualifications summary
Requires an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program, with a preference for a PhD or equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years of post-master’s social work practice experience. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness, clinical background and interest in research are also highly desirable.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Promote the mission of the University, College of Arts & Sciences, and the School of Social Work.
- Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, and research.
- Work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
- Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, administer and grade student assignments/examinations, particularly in areas relating to human behavior, policy and human services, along with possible courses relating to clinical or administrative background.
- Conduct student advising and mentoring.
- Visit local agencies to provide internship oversight for students as a Faculty Liaison.
- Conduct research and present and publish research findings in peer reviewed forums.
- Serve on department and university committees as assigned by Department Chairperson.
- Participate in curriculum development and assessment.
- Attend Department, School and University faculty meetings and committees as scheduled.
- Support student recruitment efforts through occasional presentations and visits to student groups
- Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise graduate students in their assigned tasks.
Qualifications
- Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-master’s social work practice experience.
- PhD or equivalent degree or significant progress toward advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and interest in research are highly desirable.
- Skills in communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and basic counseling.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer applications, such as word processing, statistical analysis tools, spreadsheets, or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Ability to utilize different methods, media, and technology in delivering course materials.
- Ability to effectively use online classroom management systems.
- Ability to teach in-person and online classes simultaneously is highly desirable.
