Position summary
An assistant, or associate professor of communication who will teach undergraduate courses in writing, social media, public relations, and communication/general education. Advanced academic study in communication, and professional experience will blend the relationship between communication studies and the visual arts. Industry experience in public relations, and social media are very desirable. Academically advises students in course selection, and major projects.
Qualifications summary
- A Master of Arts in Communication or other associated disciplines will be considered. A PhD is preferred.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of education/industry experience, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates a passion for social media, writing, and the visual arts.
- A commitment to teamwork/collegiality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in mentoring students and guiding them through creative projects.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teaches undergraduate students in writing, social media, public relations, and communication/general education.
- Academically advises students, and oversees undergraduate research, and projects.
- Provides service to the department, college, and university on appropriate committees and projects.
- Continues developing communication/visual art projects that raise the prestige of the VACD Department of Andrews University.
Supervisory responsibilities
Possible supervision of student workers.
Qualifications
A minimum required bachelor's and master's degrees in communication, or related fields. A PhD in communication or related fields preferred. Professional experience in client-relations for written and visual projects. Also, experience in communication project management.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
A detailed understanding of photography and video equipment. An understanding of Adobe Suite, and the ability to manage graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and publishing professionals.
Interpersonal interactions
This candidate must be comfortable interacting with students in a teaching as well as advisory role.
Physical demands
Walking, carrying books and computers. Standing while using a white board in class time.
Work environment
Office environment with desks and chairs.
