Position summary
The Director of Development reports to the Vice President for University Advancement and is responsible for leading Andrews University in its comprehensive Elev8 Campaign and directing the major gifts program, including outright and deferred individual gifts, corporate, and foundation gifts. The Director of Development works with the President, Vice President for University Advancement, President’s Council, Board of Trustees, respective deans, program managers, and development staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit major individual, corporate, and foundation donor prospects for gifts in support of Andrews University’s strategic mission and priorities.
Qualifications summary

Duties and responsibilities
- Supervises and evaluates staff in the areas of Annual Fund, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Prospect Research, Donor Records Administration, Major Gift Officers, Campaign Writing, and Office Management.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of gift stewardship policies and procedures, including appropriate gift acknowledgement, thank you policies and implementation, pledge reminders, donor recognition and matching gifts systems. Is responsible for and strives to establish policies that insure a high level of quality control and promptness.
- Prepares and manages the departmental operating budget.
- Responsible for maintaining prospect research and files that maintain a confidential record of alumni, parent, friend, corporate and foundation relationships to Andrews University, including trip reports, copies of correspondence and other pertinent information about donors and prospects.
- Supervises, mentors, and assists Major Gift Officers to ensure effective relationship building and solicitation of assigned portfolio of donors. Leads team meetings in identifying and assessing moves management for major prospects; developing and implementing a solicitation strategy for each assigned major gift prospect.
- Cultivates, solicits, and steward a portfolio of prospects that includes travel to various locations with specific focus in the state of Ohio and assigned Michigan territory.
- Prepares and oversees written proposals to individual donors, informational materials, gift illustrations, and other materials to secure major gifts including proposals to corporations and foundations.
- Targets key donors and coordinates efforts of Vice President and President in portfolio development and strategic visitation.
- Works with Provost and Academic Deans to coordinate fundraising effort in alignment with university’s strategic plan.
- Develops and implements with development staff participation, an annual plan and report that is aligned with Andrews’ strategic plan.
- Participates in and contributes to the President’s Council: In collaboration with the President and Vice President for Advancement, strategizes focus and outcome of Fall and Spring meetings; communicates campus updates and news regularly; ensures all members are visited annually; ensures all members are solicited annually.
- Coordinates with Vice President for Advancement in securing professional consultant to provide counsel and recommendation to all fundraising efforts with particular guidance for the Elev8 campaign.
- Establishes operating plans for priorities of the Elev8 Campaign.
- Works collaboratively with the Advancement team – Planned Giving, Alumni, and the Howard Performing Arts Center, to forward the goals of University Advancement.
- Coordinates with Director of Alumni in providing personnel support for all regional alumni events.
- Coordinates with Vice President and Major Gift Officers in organizing and implementing all regional donor dinners.
- Serves on various campus committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice-President for University Advancement.
