Position summary
Certified, innovative teacher to teach Grade 5 demonstrating commitment to collegiality, professional competence, and have a passion to instill a Christ-like character while inspiring students to strive for excellence in their total development. Responsibilities include performing all supervisory and extracurricular responsibilities expected of a full-time elementary classroom teacher. RMES is the K-8 laboratory School at Andrews University and serves a very diverse population of about 200 students.

Qualifications summary
To perform the job successfully candidates must have the minimum qualifications of a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education, current NAD and MI State certification. Must demonstrate competence in the core subject/STEM areas, including remote learning skills, and has a passion for engaging and motivating students to high levels of academic achievement. Candidates must value a strong relationship with Jesus, be able to model SDA Christian values with a passion for Adventist education.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Prepares and provides appropriate learning experiences consistent with Adventist philosophy.
- Models exemplary Christ-like behavior.
- Works harmoniously with staff members, the board, constituents, the administration and colleagues at Andrews University, and the Office of Education.
- Keeps himself/herself professionally up-to-date and maintains current denominational and state certification.

Supervisory responsibilities
This position requires supervision of various in and out of classroom activities. Student health and safety is essential. Careful plans must be made and implemented for adequate supervision from the time employee receives them at school until the time they are released to parents. The basic rule is that children must be within sight of an employee or have been given permission to be out of the adult’s presence for a specific and prudent purpose.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, candidates must have the minimum qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in elementary education
2. Certification
a. Current NAD denominational
b. MI State certification
c. Or be eligible to obtain both
3. Be knowledgeable of the NAD Curriculum standards
4. Demonstrate competence in implementing best practice in a variety of teaching, learning and assessment methodologies.
5. Be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and is willing to build relationships with all stakeholders.
6. Be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing with a passion for service and sharing the love of Jesus with students and the community.

Technical competencies
The employee must be able to operate at a reasonable level of competency, equipment common to the teaching profession, such as a computer, copy machine, overhead projector, document camera, paper cutter, laminator, digital camera, telephone, etc.

Physical demands
The job requires a full range of body motion including sitting, standing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, walking, stooping, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, and reaching cupboards, cabinets, bulletin and whiteboards, and keyboard use/repetitive hand motion. The job also requires good hearing and vision adequate for assigned responsibilities.
Work environment
The employee is subject to working in a generally well-lighted, spacious, and ventilated classroom environment approximately 85% of the time while the remainder of the time is spent teaching or supervising students outside, in the gymnasium, on field trips, etc.
