Position summary
An instructor or assistant professor of photography/visual arts who will teach undergraduate courses in photo and video. Advanced academic study in photography/the visual arts, or related areas a requirement. Seeking a candidate with technical expertise in mirrorless cameras and small video rigs. The ability to create short videos/films as well as experience in photo and video equipment management is a must. Professional experience that blends the relationship between communication studies, the visual arts, social media and client-relations is strongly preferred. Academically advises students in course selection, and major projects.
Qualifications summary
- A Master of Fine Arts in Photography or other associated disciplines will be considered.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of education/industry experience, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates a passion for the visual arts.
- A commitment to teamwork/collegiality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in mentoring students and guiding them through creative projects.
- Teaching experience is highly preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teaches undergraduate students in photography, video, and general education courses. Manages equipment rental through Imaging Services.
- Academically advises students and oversees undergraduate projects.
- Provides service to the department, college, and university on appropriate committees.
- Continues developing visual art projects that raise the prestige of the VACD Department and Andrews University.
Supervisory responsibilities
Student workers to be employed under this position. Management of Imaging Services.

Technical competencies
Expertise in the use and maintence of photography, video equipment, and large-format printers. Technical expertise in mirrorless cameras a must.

- Continues developing professional projects and peer-reviewed research that raise the prestige of the faculty in the program.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly as it relates to mentoring students and guiding them through their creative projects.
Physical demands
Needs to be able to stand for long durations, operate studio equipment, and transport multi-camera production equipment.
Work environment
Will spread time in between office, classrooms, and the television studio, all of which are controlled environments.
