Position summary
This student chaplain assists in the missions and service ministries of the Center for Faith Engagement (CFE) by providing spiritual care, programming, and developing ministry leaders, teams, and partners.
Qualifications summary
The ideal candidate will be a positive representative of their faith by exhibiting authenticity, credibility, and trustworthiness.
They will demonstrate a sincere commitment to promote a culture of service and missions for university students.
They must maintain personal integrity and consistent character. Also, the student chaplain will demonstrate a thoughtful, intentional, and persistent curiosity and commitment to grow in a personal relationship with the loving God presented in the Bible.
Duties and responsibilities
- Helps to recruit new student missionaries.
- Support current student missionaries who are serving and working with returned SMs to integrate back into campus life
- Participates in required training and leadership development including annual leadership retreat, weekly leadership discussions, and other opportunities as assigned by their direct report.
- Commits to office hours providing hospitality and accessibility for students.
- Responds, in coordination with their direct report, to campus emergencies and ministry needs related to students in crisis.
- Adheres to Andrews University policies for conduct, daily processes and risk management.
- Maintains a working understanding of the budget and works with their direct report to remain within budget and to request funds if needed.
- Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the Center’s executive team.
- Commit to the Center’s values for collaboration, excellence, and BRAVE conversations.

Qualifications
- Will have previous experience in short term mission trips or student missionary
- Must be available no later than August 15, 2021
- Must be a student in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Must be a student that lives on or close to the main campus.
Technical competencies
- Must be proficient with various types of digital communications
- Have a basic understanding of Windows or Mac OS
- Ability to create basic documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

- Seek help, guidance, education, and training relevant to their position
- Practice a compassionate presence and hospitality to students of all races, religions, and backgrounds
- Listen attentively to and empathize with others
- Display the capacity for meaningful dialogue
- Exercise good conflict resolution strategies
- Maintain a social media presence that is consistent with the values and ideals of the CFE and a student chaplain.

Work environment
Various types of work environments including but not limited to an office setting, outdoor events, or large venues like a hall or church.
