Position summary

With the guidance of the ADL Lead Manager, responsible for day to day operation of all aspects of the Adventist Digital Library's digitization work, including supervision of student workers, quality assurance, instruction and training, management of related hardware and software.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Responsible for the training, scheduling, and supervision of the staff and student workers involved in digitization.

  2. Participates in an ongoing process of development, implementation and review of a best practices approach to the digitization and long term digital archival of ADL and CAR digital materials.

  3. Maintains a comprehensive quality assurance process to ensure that the output of the digitization center adheres to established industry standards and complies with the policies set forth in the ADL Policies and Governance document.

  4. Actively supports the digitization efforts of partners and contributors through consultation and resource sharing as prescribed by the shared Memorandum of Understanding between ADL and these entities.

  5. Advances a positive brand image for ADL, both among its partners and among the Adventist public via social media outreach and digital and print marketing initiatives.

  6. Maintains and creates training materials and process documentation related to the digitization center’s work.

  7. Provides ADL administration with detailed statistical reports to facilitate the ongoing evaluation of center functions, including overall output, employee efficiency, and labor costs.

  8. Serves on the ADL Content Sub-Committee.

  9. Maintains physical integrity of the various materials being digitized through proper handling, storage, methods, and care.

  10. Performs digitization tasks deemed too delicate for student processing.

  11. Performs other tasks assigned by the ADL Manager.



Supervisory responsibilities

Trains and supervises an average team of seven student workers as well as any regular staff assigned to digitization. This will be in consultation and cooperation with the ADL Manager and the Center for Adventist Research.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably with an emphasis in digital media or librarianship. Coursework or experience in Seventh-day Adventist history is preferred. 
Experience/Skills

  1. Demonstrable passion for the preservation of history and historical items.

  2. Long term vibrant relationship with the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a strong understanding of church structure, institutions, and history.

  3. Must speak, read and write English at an advanced level (CEFR C1 or better), and be able to train others using English.

Technical competencies


  1. Demonstrable experience in the transfer of content from analog to digital, including some or all of the following original formats: paper, audio, video, motion picture, and photographic.

  2. General familiarity with library metadata standards such as MARC, MODS, and Dublin Core.

  3. Strong computer skills, including the installation and use of scanning software, graphics software, and hardware drivers. Must have experience with networked filesystems and cloud storage services.

  4. Intermediate to advanced digital media skills, including expertise with Adobe Photoshop, Premier and Audition. Must be able to teach student workers how to use these tools if needed.

  5. Handbrake.

  6. General comfort with manipulating digital files and moving them around.



Interpersonal interactions


  1. Project management experience, either in a corporate or academic environment.

  2. Experience managing or leading a team.

  3. Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment where processes constantly evolve and where there is more emphasis on teamwork and dialog than on position and title.

General office-like environment with climate control, furniture, carpet, and a small staff.  Noise level is minimal.
